Summary: In this article, we will give you the answer how to import Canon XC10 XF-AVC MXF to Avid Media Composer for smooth editing.

Canon XC10, a professional UltraHD 4K camcorder, which is designed to deliver stunning 4K and Full HD video. It uses XF-AVC movie recording format, employs the MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 video compression format, and stores shootings in an MXF wrapper.  (Learn more about "What's MXF")

As one of the typical non-linear editing system (NLE), although it claimed, Avid MC provide native support for Canon MXF, with no transcoding required, smooth importing, strong metadata support, real-time editing, and flexible delivery options. However, when users have a project with the XF-AVC MXF recordings from Canon XC10 in Avid MC, they would meet troubles like the following:

  • We received .MXF video files and are unable to bring them in via import. We're on Avid 5.5 (mac).
  • Can't add MXF files without bin to Avid MC. These MXF files are captures on a different system and sent to me without bin.
  • Tried import MXF and MC gave me an error saying that that was the wrong way to import media.
  • I need help in merging Avid consolidated .mxf files into a .mov file for another user without an Avid system.
  • Tried to import MXF files to Premiere 5.5 but to no avail. The error says: The file has an unsupported compression type.
